Today is Veterans Day

In honor of Veterans’ Day on November 11, Kimbrough Law salutes the millions of men and women who have helped protect our uniquely American way of life.

“The brave men and women who serve and protect the U.S. are all ages and come from all walks of life,” said Kim Kimbrough, a VA-accredited attorney and founder of Kimbrough Law, an elder law and estate planning firm known for assisting veterans. “Our veterans are parents, children and grandparents. They are friends, neighbors and coworkers. They are an important part of their communities.”

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day–a common misunderstanding, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Memorial Day (the fourth Monday in May) honors American service members who died in service to their country or as a result of injuries incurred during battle, while Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans–living or dead–but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

In the United States, an official wreath-laying ceremony is held each Veterans Day at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery, while parades and other celebrations are held in states around the country.
