Meet Mary Jo Johnson

Mary Jo Johnson has joined Kimbrough Law as a Life Care Coordinator, Kimbrough Law founder W.H. “Kim” Kimbrough, Jr. announced today. Mary Jo will be based in the firm’s Athens office.

“We are delighted to welcome Mary Jo,” said Mr. Kimbrough, whose firm provides a wide range of legal, financial, and personal support to older adults and their family caregivers. “Her educational background, experience in the long-term care industry, and passion for working with older adults and their families make her a great addition to our team.”

Before joining Kimbrough Law, Mary Jo worked as a licensed nursing home administrator, designed state-of-the-art memory care facilities, worked as a dementia trainer, served as adjunct faculty at a major university, and owned and operated a specialized memory care assisted living. She is a Certified Care Manager, Certified Dementia Practitioner, and Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer. Mary Jo earned a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from Michigan State University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.

In addition to spending more than 30 years in leadership roles in long-term care facilities, Mary Jo gained personal experience as a family caregiver when her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 65. Her experiences during her father’s decade-long Alzheimer’s journey were featured in the animated production of Superhero based on her personal love story with her father and she had the honor of being in the Memory Bridge 2018 documentary Love is Listening as well.

After moving to Georgia four years ago to open a senior living community, Mary Jo found herself drawn to independent consulting. It was then that she met another elder care professional who was working with Kimbrough Law. Impressed by the powerful impact the firm’s services were having on the lives of clients, Mary Jo jumped at the chance to join the firm. “I was moved by Mr. Kimbrough’s story, faith, and philosophy,” she said. “The time was right to apply my skills outside the formalized long-term care setting and Kimbrough Law was the perfect fit.”

As Life Care Coordinator, Mary Jo walks alongside families during the long-term care journey, assessing needs, developing action plans, evaluating options, and assisting with decision making. “I am excited to make a difference in the lives of older adults and their families,” Mary Jo added. “I consider it a tremendous privilege.”
